Poker Hand Rankings You can win a hand of poker two ways: either by forcing all your opponents to fold their cards or by having the best hand at showdown. You therefore need to know the ranking of poker hands, ie, what beats what. An unanticipated problem was encountered, check back soon and try again. In most versions of poker, the highest ranking hand wins. The exceptions to the rule are versions of poker which are structured specifically to allow the lowest ranking hand to win the pot, or at least part of it. Poker games vary in the number of cards dealt to each player, and in the number of shared 'community' cards.
The ranking of the hands contained in a deck of cards is as follows:
Royal Flush 10, J, Q, K, A all of the same suit.
Straight Flush Any five card sequence in the same suit. (Ex: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.)
Four-of-a-kind All four cards of the same ranking (Ex: A, A, A, A.)
Full House Three of a kind combined with a pair. (Ex: K, K, A, A, A.)
Flush Any five cards of the same suit, but not in sequence.
Straight Any five cards in sequence, but not in the same suit.
Three-of-a-kind Three cards of the same ranking without a pair. (Ex: K, K, K.)
Two Pair Two separate pairs. (Ex: 5, 5, K, K.)
